The piece, “Untethered” was created as a way to find peace with my difficult young adult years. This is the back story.
“Untethered” is a personal piece I created as part of the course I’m taking, “Befriending Your Shadow” with Erika Cleveland.

Rules of the Road. Watercolor on paper. 11”x9.5” (28cm x 24cm).
A few years ago I was in a vintage store and found a floatation cushion with this print.
It probably dates to the 1960s (dig the motorboat!) I was so charmed by the artwork and design. It reminds me of my midwestern childhood, vacations spent near lakes, and the fun I had.

Tonala Tortoise with traditional motifs and patterns. Watercolor on paper. 11” x 8.5” (28cm x 22cm).
Backstory: I was walking in my neighborhood when I noticed what looked like a large rock moving in someone’s yard. It was a tortoise! A very friendly tortoise. It walked right up to the fence and gave me a good look. I was charmed. I had no idea tortoises could be so friendly and charismatic. My tortoise friend inspired this painting.

Alley Artifacts #13 Maine. Watercolor on paper. 8.5″x 11″ 22cm x 28cm).
Sights and scenes from my 2019 trip to Maine. We spent most of our time in Camden and Rockport.
The lovely mermaid was on the outer wall of the gift shop and restaurant at the Owls Head Lighthouse Museum complex. Credit to Christine Anderson who painted the mural. While I did take a sightseeing cruise, I was way too seasick to take any pictures. I will never be a good sailor.
Tonala Snake, “Soledad.” Watercolor on paper. 8.5”x 11”.
I am very fond of reptiles, including snakes. Soledad is a very nice snake who doesn’t bite and enjoys resting in a heart-shape.
